From Leonsberg your adventure begins by dome boat in search of dolphins, spotting caimans is on the program after dinner.
The dolphins always travel together in groups or even entire groups.
Sometimes it takes a while before they are found, because the dolphins can move over a large area, especially at high tide.
Our skilled boatman, who is also in contact with his fellow boatmen, almost always knows where to find them, even when the conditions are not optimal.
After the dolphins have been extensively spotted, the photos and videos taken, we sail further against the current on the Commewijne river.
We get off at the plantation ‘Johanna and Margaretha’ in Commewijne.
Here you will enjoy a roti meal, an authentic Hindustani dish.
After dinner, when dusk falls, it is time to change clothes if you have other clothes and to apply mosquito gel (there are many mosquitoes in the swamp).
When the boatman has prepared the boat(s) and everyone has boarded and is seated properly, it is time for the adventure.
You sail low above the water at a reasonable speed, it is a real experience and yet a bit exciting!
The boatman has a branch with a special loop on it to be able to catch the caimans painlessly and easily.
He then ties an elastic around the caiman’s mouth and you can safely hold the caiman, after which you also have the opportunity to pose for a photo together.
The elastic is for the safety of you and the caiman itself (if the caiman struggles free, he will get the elastic free quite quickly in the water so that he can survive this, on the other hand it also serves to keep your fingers safe).
After the caimans the boat takes us back to the plantation and from there we will continue our way in the dome boat back to Leonsberg.
We will arrive here between 21:00 and 22:00, this is always dependent on the tides.
Any dietary restrictions should be communicated in advance so that they can be taken into account.
Once on site, the food has already been ordered and prepared.
