Brokopondo is a district in Suriname with a population of approximately 20,000, of which 80% are Maroons and 20% are other population groups.
This district is known for its reservoir, logging, gold industry and ecotourism and consists largely of tropical rainforest and the reservoir (which has an area comparable to the entire province of Utrecht in the Netherlands).
