APIAPAATI

Spectacular 3-day (2-night) tour deep into the Upper Suriname area (headwaters of the Suriname River).
Available as a 3-day and 4-day tour. River-lodge Apiapaati is located on an island opposite the Sarramaccan village of Granseei. From the island there is a magnificent view of the Ajinivoda rapids.
Absolute highlights: you will visit the Tapawatra falls and the Gran Dan rapids.

A high quality tour and resort (eco), local and good guidance and fun and original activities!

Apia was a man from the village of Gran Slee. The island (paati in Sarramaccan) is named after him, because he was the first to build a camp there. Apia was a fisherman and from the island he could quickly go to the river to fish. Since 1993 the island has been visited by tourists and nowadays there is an eco resort (powered by solar panels). Apiapaati is a high quality resort but also built entirely according to Sarramaccan tradition; the huts are equipped with palm leaves, this protects against the sun during the day and in the evenings it is wonderfully cool.
